Functional Capacity Assessment Northern Territory — Occupational Therapist-Led NDIS Reports for NT Participants

The Northern Territory presents the most challenging allied health supply landscape in Australia. With roughly 250,000 residents spread across 1.4 million square kilometres — and an NDIS participant population that is disproportionately Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander — NT participants frequently report wait lists of 6 to 12 months for specialist FCA assessment.

Our Australia-wide telehealth model gives every NT participant — whether based in Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, or in remote and very remote communities across the Top End, Arnhem Land, the Tiwi Islands, the Daly River region, the Barkly Tablelands and Central Australia — direct access to the same experienced AHPRA-registered Occupational Therapist, the same NDIS-aligned report structure, and the same 5-business-day turnaround.

Across the Top End we routinely assess participants in Darwin (CBD, northern suburbs, eastern suburbs), Palmerston, Howard Springs, Humpty Doo, Katherine and Nhulunbuy. In Central Australia we assess participants in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Yuendumu, Hermannsburg and remote APY-bordering communities.

Wherever the participant lives in the Territory, our scheduling is flexible — sessions can be split across multiple shorter video calls, scheduled around school, work, community obligations or sorry business, and accommodated to the seasonal patterns of remote travel.

Approximately 30% of NT residents identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander — and a significantly higher proportion of NT NDIS participants. Cultural safety is not an add-on for us; it is built into how we conduct every NT assessment.

We work directly with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), Aboriginal Liaison Officers, community-based Support Coordinators and family decision-makers. Interpreter support across Yolngu Matha, Pitjantjatjara, Warlpiri, Arrernte, Kriol and other NT languages is arranged at no additional charge. Where the family prefers an in-language assessment, we partner with an interpreter who joins the video session in real time.

We respect the participant's preferred name, kinship system and decision-making framework, and adjust the pace of the interview to align with culturally appropriate conversational rhythms.

NDIA operations for NT participants are coordinated through the Darwin and Alice Springs offices, with significant involvement from the Remote Community Connector program. Our Occupational Therapist-led FCA reports are written to satisfy the national reasonable-and-necessary criteria and are routinely accepted by NT planners.

Our reports are designed to support a broad range of NDIS funding decisions — access requests, plan reassessments, change-of-circumstances reviews, SIL and SDA evidence, ILO and STA submissions, AT requests and escalations — but the NDIA always makes its own funding determination.

Every specialist Occupational Therapist-led assessment we offer is available to NT participants — SIL assessments with costed Rosters of Care, SDA assessments across all four design categories, ILO assessments, STA assessments, Psychosocial FCAs, Autism FCAs, Neurological FCAs and Assistive Technology evidence.

Every service is delivered with the same 5-business-day turnaround, regardless of where in the Territory the participant lives.
