NDIS Functional Capacity Assessment Sydney — FCA Reports Across Greater Sydney and NSW

Sydney's geographic spread — more than 12,000 square kilometres of metropolitan area home to over five million people — has historically created significant access barriers for participants needing specialist NDIS assessment. Participants in the outer south-west or the lower Blue Mountains have often faced wait times of three to six months to see an in-person assessor based in the inner city, plus substantial travel time on the day of assessment itself.

Our virtual FCA model collapses both barriers. The same experienced clinician is available to a participant in Liverpool, Penrith, Springwood or Cronulla within the same timeline as a participant in Bondi or Mosman. We have completed assessments across every Sydney council area and routinely work with families spanning multiple suburbs — for example, where the participant lives with one parent in the inner west and spends school holidays with a parent in the Hills district.

The NDIA's NSW operations are distributed across multiple Local Area Coordination partners and planner teams, with major hubs in Sydney CBD, Parramatta, Penrith, Liverpool, Campbelltown and the Central Coast. Different planner teams have developed slightly different evidence preferences over time, and our FCA reports are structured to meet the national framework consistently while accommodating these regional patterns.

For participants undergoing first plan applications, plan reassessments, change-of-circumstances submissions, or escalations to the NDIS internal review or AAT processes, our reports provide the structured, defensible evidence base that NSW planners and reviewers require.

Beyond Greater Sydney, our service extends to every NSW postcode. We have completed Functional Capacity Assessments for participants on the Central Coast (Gosford, Wyong, Tuggerah), the Hunter region (Newcastle, Maitland, Cessnock, Singleton), the Illawarra (Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama), the Southern Highlands, the South Coast (Nowra, Batemans Bay, Eden), the Northern Rivers (Lismore, Ballina, Byron, Tweed), the New England (Tamworth, Armidale, Inverell), the Central West (Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo, Mudgee), the Riverina (Wagga Wagga, Albury, Griffith) and the Far West (Broken Hill, Bourke, Cobar).

Regional NSW participants are some of the most underserved by traditional in-person allied health assessment. The telehealth model is not a workaround — for many regional participants, it is the only realistic pathway to specialist NDIS evidence within a sensible timeframe.

Sydney participants have full access to every specialist assessment service we provide. Our Sydney SIL assessments include costed Rosters of Care and support ratio justification. Our SDA assessments work alongside the major Sydney SDA developers and operators across all four design categories. Sydney participants with mental health conditions access our recovery-oriented psychosocial FCAs. Autistic Sydney participants access our neurodiversity-affirming autism FCAs. Participants with neurological conditions access our Occupational Therapist-led neurological FCAs.

Each service is delivered with the same clinical depth and 5 business day turnaround regardless of the participant's Sydney postcode.

Many Sydney NDIS participants are connected to one of the city's major Local Health Districts — Sydney, Northern Sydney, South Eastern Sydney, South Western Sydney, Western Sydney, Nepean Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Hunter New England — or to specialist private services such as the Children's Hospital at Westmead, Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick, Royal Rehab Ryde, or the Brain and Spinal Injury Unit at Royal North Shore.

Our FCAs integrate cleanly with existing hospital and outpatient allied health records. Where the participant has neuropsychological reports, behaviour support plans, allied health discharge summaries or specialist medical letters, we incorporate these as collateral evidence — producing a coherent functional narrative rather than a fragmented evidence pack.

Intake, funding confirmation and first interview are typically scheduled within five to ten business days for Sydney participants. End-to-end timelines from initial contact to issued report are usually under three weeks — significantly faster than the wait at most in-person Sydney providers, where waits of three to six months are common.

Urgent 3–5 business day turnarounds are available where required. We work with Sydney participants who have time-critical plan reviews, imminent SIL or SDA decisions, court or AAT deadlines, or hospital discharge planning needs.
