Individualised Living Options (ILO) is a person-centred NDIS home and living funding stream for participants who want to live the way they choose — alone, with a host family, with chosen housemates, or in another flexible arrangement. ILO is one of the most underutilised home and living options in the NDIS, in large part because the evidence requirements are exacting.

What is the NDIS ILO Program?

Individualised Living Options is an NDIS funding stream that gives participants flexibility to design a living arrangement that fits their goals, rather than fitting into a standard SIL property. ILO has two stages: Stage 1 — Exploration & Design (a one-off package to explore options, build informal networks and design the model) and Stage 2 — Ongoing Supports (the funding that sustains the chosen living arrangement).

Common ILO Living Models

  • Living alone with drop-in supports and natural neighbour relationships
  • Living with a host (homestay or host family arrangement)
  • Living with chosen co-residents in a shared arrangement
  • Living with a live-in support worker (paid or volunteer)
  • Hybrid models that combine paid, informal and community supports

Why ILO Assessments Are Different

ILO is not assessed in the same way as SIL. The NDIA looks for evidence that the participant has been actively involved in designing the model, that informal and community networks have been mapped, that risk is appropriately mitigated, and that the proposed model is sustainable. Our ILO reports use the NDIS ILO evidence template and have been developed with reference to NDIA decision-making patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for ILO if I already have SIL?+

Yes — many participants transition from SIL to ILO. The ILO Stage 1 funding is specifically designed to explore whether ILO is a better fit.

How long is the ILO assessment?+

Stage 1 reports typically take 4–6 weeks of design work followed by a written report. Standard FCA components are completed within our normal 7 business day turnaround.
